A St. Louis client desired a home filled with character and detail.
St. Louis, MO
What was once lackluster was transformed. Having been given instructions by the homeowners not to tear down walls or replace cabinetry, each room of this St. Louis home was drenched in color and layered with textures and collected treasures. In the family room, walls are bathed in high-gloss peacock green and a pair of velvet French Bergères chairs match the moment. An oversized brass cocktail table integrates with a neutral rug. Plumes of feathered crystals adorn the light fixture. The foyer was enlivened and gilded. An Art Deco-inspired light fixture emits a warm glow.
A busy working mother’s dark and dismal home office is transformed into a lively and inviting sanctuary. Dated wood shelves are painted a flirtatious pale pink. The ceiling is emboldened with unexpected, outsized floral blossom wallpaper in provocative shades of fuchsia and violet. Oak floors are refinished and topped with an acid washed cow hide rug. Walls are swathed in multiple layers of pastel paint, mimicking grasscloth to add texture and interest. Delicate brass sconces flank a dimensional marble sculpture behind an elegant desk featuring fluted sides and tapered legs that further nod to femininity. The formidable, artisanal chandelier with multiple swirled glass orbs allows light to gracefully shimmer across the space’s newfound sensual appeal.
An opulent dining space inspired by the past includes a traditional dining set refinished in an updated stain and performance fabric. Millwork and ceilings were painted to have the effect of a warm glow, pairing effortlessly with a patterned wall covering and drapery.
The family gathers in the breakfast room, where we added a classic marble bistro table and Riviera rattan dining chairs. The open cage burnished brass pendant pairs well with layered textures of the room. The sitting room is centered around a cloverleaf ottoman upholstered in a playful woven zebra velvet. Club chairs invite family conversation. The Hammerton chandelier offers an intriguing juxtaposition of organic and geometric design to the vaulted ceiling. Uncovered windows allow for natural light and invite the outside in.
